Raised in the Sussex countryside, Lydia Whitmore studied fine-art painting at Central Saint Martins and Chelsea College of Arts. She developed an interest in cinematography at university and commenced a four-year apprenticeship with a still-life photographer upon graduating.
Whitmore currently works out of her own studio in East London, and remains a disciple of the genre. "I love the control of still lifes," she said. "For a regular fashion shoot, there are so many elements to balance, but with still life, I know – almost exactly – what's going to happen the day beforehand."
She frequently contributes to InStyle and Esquire magazines.
